The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, at 10:30 AM, at the First Baptist Church in Columbus with Rev. Dan Odom officiating. Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery, rural Genoa, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday at 10:15 AM at the church. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Camp Mose Merrill, or those of the donor's choice.
Rachel G. Pearson was born July 10, 1922 in Kamenica, Ukraine, to Ernest and Maria (Schroeter) Boettcher. In 1926, the family emigrated from Ukraine to Mexico. On landing in Mexico, the Boettcher family lived for a time in Vera Cruz, and then moved to Durango, where they spent four years while awaiting their visas to the United States. On August 15, 1930, they came to Nebraska, and settled on a farm near Madison, Nebraska.
Rachel graduated from Newman Grove High School, Newman Grove, Nebraska, in 1941. On February 26, 1942, Rachel was united in marriage to Vernon V. Pearson in Newman Grove. Rachel accompanied Vernon during his military career and after his discharged, settled on a farm in Platte County. In 1972 they moved to Central City, Nebraska, where they operated and managed the Crest Motel. They retired and moved to Columbus in 1984.
Rachel was an active member of First Baptist Church in Columbus. She enjoyed bowling, baking, delivering “Meals On Wheels” and watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
