Funeral Tuesday For Ray E. Ray Bright
E. Ray Bright, Sr. life-long resident of Gonzales, died at the Homes Memorial hospital Monday at 7:40 a.m. following a period of long illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday from the Seydler Funeral home with the Rev. Roy H. May pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will take place in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
He was the last surviving of four brothers, C. Vaughn Bright, J.C. Bright, Earl Bright having preceded him in death.
The son of J. and Nora Mitchell Bright, he was born here in the city on April 29, 1880, his father being a native of Arkansas and his mother a native of Gonzalean. She was a member of the Eli Mitchell family, pioneer residents of early Gonzales when the town was founded.
On June 10, 1902, he and Miss Roberta Sellers were married. The family had made their home for many years at 122 South College street. Formerly in the music business, Mr. Bright had served as district manager of the NAR back in the early 1930's. He had also served as an accountant in Gonzales prior to his ill health.
A member of the First Methodist church, he is survived by his wife; two daughters, Miss Lenore Bright, this city; and Mrs. Norman (Laurette) Smith of San Antonio; and two sons, W.J. Bright and E. Ray Bright, Jr., this city.
One son, Oran Otho Bright died in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. T.H. (Boothe) Boehm, died on September 8, this year.
Pallbearers will include Calvin Spacek, George P. O'Conner, Steen DuBose, B.G. Storey, Bob Holmes and Delbert Dunn.
