Virgil Hardin Scott

Virgil Hardin Scott, 90, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Country Charm Retirement Community in Greenwood. He was a resident of Amity.

He was born April 16, 1909, in St. Louis Crossing. His parents were John Thomas and Mattie (Nading) Scott. He married Blanche Josephine Hanes Willard on Oct. 1, 1935. She preceded him in death Feb. 28, 1986. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn R. Tomey of Greenwood and Marilyn Ann Tomey of Whiteland; three stepdaughters, Margaret Ellen Scott of Marietta and Etta Fay Miller and Eda May Thompson, both of Edinburgh; a sister, Mary Francis Stipanovic of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace Scott and Eugene Scott; a sister, Mary Kathryn Scott; and a grandson: Dennis Lee Tomey.

He was a 1927 graduate of St. Louis Crossing High School.

He was employed by Arvin in Franklin as a machinist for 28 years, retiring in 1974.

He attended Victory Baptist Church of Whiteland.

The Rev. Mark Felber will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Monday at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Services: 11 a.m. Feb. 7 in Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home, Franklin, with calling from 2 to 8 p.m. Feb. 6. Burial: Rest Haven Cemetery, Edinburgh.

He was the widower of Blanche Josephine Hanes Willard Scott.

Survivors: daughters Carolyn R., Marilyn Ann Tomey ; stepdaughters Margaret Ellen Scott, Etta Fay Miller, Edna May Thompson; sister Mary Francis Stipanovic; nine grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.
