Eldon James Wichers, 93, a longtime resident of Mount Vernon and Arlington, WA, died in Arlington on Sunday, November 25, 2018. He was born in Downs, Kansas, on May 25, 1925, to Henry and Jennie Wichers. Henry and Jennie moved their family of seven boys and two girls to Washington State in the mid 1930's. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Eldon served in the United States Marine Corps in 1945 to 1946. He married Fern (DeVries) on November 1, 1946, and raised their three children in Ferndale and Mount Vernon. Fern passed away in April 1988 of Alzheimer's. Eldon remarried in 1989 to Dena Boersema (Huizenga) from Arlington, WA, adding six step-children and their families to his family. Eldon drove truck for a living, driving for Consolidated Freightlines, Fiedler Distributing, and National Frozen Foods. He loved boating, camping, and taking his various motor homes all over the U.S. He also enjoyed his cars. He was very mechanical and did most of the work on his own cars. He was a member of the Cascade Christian Reformed Church in Marysville, and he and Dena started a Bible study at their house. Eldon is survived by his wife, Dena; two brothers, Marvin and Cornell; three children, Darrell (Sue), Sharon Kuipers (Henry), Gary (Vicki) and six step-children, Gary Boersema (Denise), Dale Boersema (Marie), Judy Boersema, Jim Boersema (Jill), Linda Masters, Denise Loucks (Scott); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Arlington Health and Rehab for their wonderful care of Eldon during the past four years. Eldon will be buried at the Mount Vernon Cemetery. A celebration of Eldon's life will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Cascade Christian Reformed Church, 13908 51st Ave. NE, Marysville, WA. 98271. Memorials may be made to the church's Building Fund.
