We are very sad to chronicle the death of our neighbor, Mrs. M.F. Hill, familiarly called "Aunt Martha," which occurred on Thursday, April 13.
Mrs. Hill was born in Henry county, Tennessee, April 3, 1841 and came to Texas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Coats, 54 years ago. She was first married to Marion Brisendine in 1865. Two children, J.D. and H.L. Brisendine, were born of this union. She was left a widow several years and in 1878 married C.H. Hill. Three sons, Elder, Elbert and Sim, were born of this union. All of the above named children survive her. She is also survived by one brother, J.H. Coats of Puryear, Tenn., and four sisters, as follows: Mesdames Caroline Chapman, Harriett Cootes and Sarah Humphreys of Mesquite, and Mrs. Hulda Bennett of Hutchins. Besides these there are a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Mrs. Hill had been a member of the Missionary Baptist church for 50 years and lived a consecrated Christian life.
Her death results from a complication of diseases, following a ten days' illness of measles. The funeral services were conducted at the family home Friday afternoon by Rev. G.C. Garrison, assisted by Rev. C.G. Wright. Her remains were conveyed to Pleasant Mound cemetery and there laid to rest to await the great day of the Lord, when He shall come to gather his jewels home.
