Dora Edith Emmert was born on Jan. 10, 1905 in Kordell, Ok to Abraham and Susannah "Katie" Boyd. The family moved to the Boise Valley in 1918. Dora attended schools in Oklahoma, the Bennett and Bowmont Community Schools and Nampa High School. She married Edgar M. Emmert on Nov. 28, 1923. In 1928 they purchased 80 acres in the Bowmont area, eight miles south of Nampa on Southside Blvd. where they built their first and only home in 1929 and have resided there since.
Dora's hands were never idle. During her life she milked cows, raised chickens, kept a large garden, preserving thousands of jars of produce, worked on corn pickers, drove a team of horses for the hay derrick and cooked tons of food for work crews, church and community dinners. She was a fabulous cook and a superior seamstress, making clothes for herself, her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. She crocheted miles of thread and made numerous quilts using blocks of cloth from all the clothes she made over the years.
Dora was an active member of the Community Bible Church of Nampa. Previously she had been a member of the Bowmont Brethren Church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She was a co-founder and member of the Bowmont Ladies Aid Society throughout its existence of several decades. She served her community in many areas including polio charity auctions, voting the registration and held many offices in the Bowmont Grange. Dora and Edgar loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with their children and friends. Every grandchild has been treated to a special trip to Disneyland or Yellowstone Park.
Dora is survived by her husband, Edgar; a son and daughter-in-law, Betty and LaVern Martineau, all of Nampa; 2 brothers, Jim Boyd, Brea, CA, and Harold Boyd, Nampa; 4 granddaughters, Vicki and her husband L. D. Smith, Meridian, Linda and her husband Tom Stradley, Jolyn and her husband Royce Post, all of Nampa, and Kay and her husband Rich Panzeri, Redmond, WA; 3 grandsons, Steve and his wife Martineau, Chris and his wife Bev Emmert, all of Nampa, and Rick and his wife Kathy Emmert, Walla Walla, WA; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters, 2 brothers, a granddaughter, Diane Martineau Moody, and 2 great-grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Post.
The family suggests memorials to the Mercy Medical Center Hospice Program, 1512 12th Ave., Rd., Nampa, or to a favorite charity.
