Frank was a coal miner and farmer but moved to Earlington KY for a short while and tried the restaurant business. Frank and Hattie returned to Muhlenburg Co around 1915 and had a homeplace just below Ebenezer Baptist Church on the Beech Creek Road, renamed Merle Travis Road the summer of 1991.

Franks parents were James Washington Travis (1857-1879)(buried:Rosewood KY) and Nancy Berry Mitchell (1859-1905)(Travis) Joins(buried:Belton, Todd Co KY)
