Charles Leon Ames was born 14 NOV 1908 in Wautoma, Wisconsin to Charles Witt and Ida Mae (Vroman) Ames. He was the youngest of their four children, Irvin Marion 1889-1945, Earl Witt or Wiltcie 1893-1968, Oliver Peter 1903-1980 and Charles Leon 1908-1975.

He married Bernice G. Prince on 31 DEC 1929 in the Berean Presbyterian Church of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They had four children: Leon Lawrence (Lee) Ames 1930-2002, Patricia Ann (Patsy) 1932-2011, Margaret Mae (Peggy) 1935-2017 and Judith Elaine. The family lived in Milwaukee and Charles worked as a machinist for Allis Chalmers.

At some point before 1968 Charles left for work one day and simply never came back. He moved across the country and settled in Oregon. He died 12 JUL 1975.
