Roy's parents Carl and Eva Bell, along with brothers Al, Vern and Carl; and sister Vivian, moved to Oregon June 18, 1938. Settling in Salem, Roy attended high school where he met his bride to be Mary Jane Taylor.
Roy joined the Navy Seebee's during World War II and married Mary Jane in San Jose while on leave. After the War, he went to work with the State Veterans Affairs as a typist. Over the years he advanced to become the Financial Officer for the department. He retired from the state position after 30 years of service to begin his next phase in life.
