Wanda was born in Rolfe, Iowa on July 28, 1919 to Frank and Olive Sroufe.
She married Verne Walter (Buck) Nelson on April 2, 1939. Verne died on March 22, 1979. Wanda is survived by their three children: Alverna (Roger) Peterson of Sweeny, Texas, Verne Nelson of Iowa City, Iowa and Page Petersen of Austin, Minnesota. She had eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren that loved her very much. Wanda was preceded in death by her sisters - Mae Staecker and Edith Wilson and brothers - Joe Buttz, William Buttz and Eugene Buttz.
Wanda lived in Texas for the past four years. Prior to that she lived on the west side in Fort Dodge for 64 years. Wanda was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church, a very active member and a woman of faith. She was a member of the Fort Dodge Women's Club and known as a frequent contributor to Letters to the Editor.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday November 1, 2005 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa with the Rev. Mathew Martens officiating. Burial will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church.
