Marie Luke Simpson, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Legacy Village of Tifton.

Funeral services were held 11 AM, Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Fitzgerald Church of God, with the Rev. Dewain Joiner officiating. Chris Young and George Ray will give the eulogies on behalf of the grandchildren. Michelle Griffin will read scripture at the graveside. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Simpson was born October 17, 1931, in Berrien County, Georgia to the late Leon Luke & Grovie Solomon Ellis. Mrs. Simpson was a preacher’s wife and homemaker who loved to do for others and her family. She served alongside her husband while he pastored five churches. She was a loyal and faithful wife of 60 years. She enjoyed cooking with her specialty being her fried apple tarts. Mrs. Simpson was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, especially day lilies. Mrs. Simpson was a dedicated member of the Fitzgerald Church of God and a former choir member.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Janet & Larry Young, Patsy & George Ray and Mike & Lynn B. Simpson, all of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Chris Young, Amanda & Bill Barrs, Michelle & Brent Griffin, Christy & Steven Dasher, Adam & Natalie Wadsworth, George Ray and fiancé Amanda Cooper and Tyler & Laura Wadsworth; great-grandchildren: Abby Barrs, Shelby Griffin, Raegan Griffin, Brentley Griffin, Bristol Barrs, Brantley Wadsworth, Adalynn Wadsworth, Ruby Dasher, Layla Wadsworth and another one on the way; sisters, Bonnie Segerstrom of Valdosta, Barbara & Ronald Stone of Enigma and Linda Cooper of Ray City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charlie E. Simpson and a sister, Hazel Prentiss. Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
