Gary was born on August 30, 1948, in Knoxville, IA, to Frank and Louise Whitlatch; and grew up in the Melcher-Dallas area. He lived most of his life in Collins, IA. He served four years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war.
Gary is survived by his wife, Deanna of Ankeny; his daughter, Michelle Griffith of Ankeny, son Andrew and wife Kathryn of St. Charles, Il; son Adam of Ankeny; and seven grandchildren Alexandra Caulkins, Elizabeth, Drew, and Tanner Griffith, and Thomas, Daphne, and Peter Whitlatch; one brother, David, of Atlanta, GA, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Larry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Food pantry.
