Robert was the eldest son of Michael K. and Elizabeth N. (Hovagimian) Atamian. His younger siblings were Beverly and Michael (Mickey). Robert was a star high school athlete who later served honorably in the US Marine Corps Reserve as a Sergeant. He was an engineer after his service. Robert was married to Koula (Karathanos) Atamian and is the father of Cheryl (Atamian) Swartz (b. 1959) and Michael Atamian (b. 1962).
