BLOOMINGTON- Betty June Thompson, 87 of Bloomington passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal.
She was born in McLean Illinois on June 15, 1931 daughter of Grover Folks and Mabel (Peasley) Folks. She married Donald R. Thompson on March 24, 1951.
She is survived grandsons, Chris (Karla) Hardesty and Bryce (Frances) Thompson and one brother, Thomas (Mandy) Folks.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Anne Marie Howard; son, Paul Thompson, granddaughter, Michelle Nachol Howard; along with numerous brothers and sisters.
Betty was a great wife, mother and grandmother. She could have a live chicken under her arm at noon and fried chicken on the dinner table a few hours later. It was mentioned that her husband still had the first dollar he ever made but I guarantee it was kept in her purse. Though short in stature she was always in charge of any situation. Betty was a “Bingo Queen” often traveling by plane, train and automobile to wreak havoc on bingo halls all across the nation. Able to play 50+ bingo cards at a time with all her buckeyes and silver dollar good luck charms spread out around her, she was a master of the game and the owners cringed every time she walked in the door.
She worked at the old Beichs candy factory almost her whole life until retirement in the 1990's.
Her husband Don was her anchor and she could not be without him very long, passing just 19 days after him and just 2 days before their 68th wedding anniversary on March 24th. Pretty sure they spent that day sitting on an old glider swing with a cold drink in their hands watching the hummingbirds dance around the feeders
There will be a graveside service for both Betty and Don on Monday, April 8th at Park Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. All friends, family and acquaintances are welcomed to attend and say goodbye to this wonderful couple.
Betty was a dog lover so in lieu of flowers or cards please donate to any local dog shelter or rescue in her name.
