Grover J. Folks, Jr. was born in Heyworth, Illinois, on January 31, 1928, son of Grover C. Folks and Mabel Peasley Folks.
Shortly after turning 18, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving until 1949. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He married Georgia Ann Brown in Peoria on January 20, 1948. In their short time together, they had two children.
He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Grover had suffered from Hodgkin's disease for 3 1/2 years, or starting about springtime of 1952.
He had been an employee of Eisner Grocery for 12 years, and had become assistant manager of the store at 1200 North Main Street, a site opposite Illinois Wesleyan University. He had continued to work there through most of his illness.
On September 1, 1955, the newspaper's Hospital Notes reported that Grover Folks had been admitted to Brokaw Hospital. He died there on Tuesday the 13th, at 11:15 a.m.
Funeral services were held at the Beck Memorial Home on Thursday the 15th, with the Rev. George Stuart of First Christian Church officiating. Burial was in Park Hill Cemetery.
Grover was survived by his wife and two children; his parents; five brothers; and four sisters.
