A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Albert and Grady Cabe Ammons. Boyd was general manager at Regal Gas for 17 years and retired after 28 years. He worked in maintenance at the Waynesville Country Club for 15 years and Harrah's Casino in maintenance facilities. Boyd was an amazing husband, father and "PaPaw". His sense of humor and love of jokes endeared him to many coworkers and friends. Boyd was also a classic car enthusiast. He and his son, Dustin, entered a 1964 Nova in several car shows.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Ammons; a daughter, Christy Ammons Plemmons and her husband, Gary of Waynesville; two sons, Boyd Ammons, Jr., and his wife, Fatima of St. Petersburg, Florida and Dustin Ammons and his special friend, Dora Surrett of Waynesville; three sisters, Anna Mae Inman, Katherine Green and her husband Sydney and Darlene Goodson, all of Waynesville; six grandchildren, Kara Ammons-Conard, (Nathan), Allissia Ammons Casella, ( Alex), Sybil Ammons, Tristen Ammons, and Morgan Plemmons, (Justin); and a great-grandchild, Braxxton Ammons-Conard.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Clinton Rowand officiating.
