William “Bill” R. Champ, 73, of Union City, Ohio, passed away Sunday, March, 17, 2019 at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville.
He was born on August 25, 1945 in Randolph County, Indiana to the late Sylvester and Nellie (Robbins) Champ.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Donny and James Champ; his sister, Mary Champ; and his half-brother, Jim Slick.
Bill was a muscle car enthusiast. He loved anything with a big engine and four wheels. His pride and joy was his 1968 Camero. Along with cars he had a passion for guns and had amassed quite a collection. His love of cars served him well throughout his 44-year career at the Union City Body Company where he was known as "Champy" by his co-workers. Bill’s extraordinary work ethic was something to admire. Throughout his 44-year career, he never missed a day of work.
He had many loves in his life; such as fishing, western movies, 4x4 trucks, but one of his favorite things to do was to sit on his front porch smoking a Kool cigarette and watching the cars go by. With all his heart, he adored his grandchildren. Nothing meant more to him than spending time with them.
Bill is survived by his children, Jennifer Champ of Akron, Ohio, William R. Champ Jr. of Greenville, Ohio, Katherine Champ of Greenville, Ohio, and Kimberly Champ of Sydney, Ohio; his granddaughter, Angel Champ of Union City, Ohio; his grandsons, Brendan Champ and Braydan Land Sidney, Ohio; his great-grandchildren, Emma Boyd, Lucas Elliot, Nathan Elliot.
Also Bill is survived his siblings: Leroy Champ, George Champ, and Betty Champ, all on Union City, Ohio; and his wife, Loretta Johnson, of Union City, Ohio. He was most happy when he was with her. Last, but not least, Bill leaves behind his devoted chihuahua, Taco.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the convenience of the family.
