James, 75, Ft. Recovery, died at Mercer County Community Hospital.

He was the son of Onie S. and Nellie (Mullenix) Champ. His former wife, Peg Long, survives Ft. Recovery.

Also surviving are a son, Zachary (Amber), Ft. Recovery; three brothers: George, Woodington, Leroy, Union City, IN, and Bill, Union City, OH; two sisters: Betty (Richard) Hardwick, Union City, IN, and Mary (Carl) Stephan, Bluffton, IN; and a half sister, Bessie Davis, Winchester, IN.

Deceased are son, Jeffrey Hardin; a brother, Donald; half sister, Mae Vanote; and half brother, Jim Slick.

He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and attended the Police Academy. He retired as Chief of Police, Ft. Recovery, after serving 25 years. He is a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Union City, IN, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both Ft. Recovery, and Fraternal Order of Police, Grand Lake Lodge.

Services are at Brockman - Boeckman Funeral Home, Ft. Recovery, with Pastor Steve Long officiating.
