Tessie was born in San Saba, Texas, to the late Charlie Startz and Pope Woods. She married Samuel Nathan Carroll in San Saba and they were married for over 50 years. Tessie was a person with many interests, accomplishments and skills. She started driving to school at age 12, and became bus number three to the other farm kids. She loved nature, animals, birds, wildlife and gardening. She knew hundreds of poems and rhymes. Tessie was an accomplished musician and could play almost any instrument. She knew hundreds of songs and played for dances in San Saba when she was young. She collected collections, everything from antiques to arrowheads, anything old. She welcomed new experiences and considered it an adventure to live in many places while Sam was in the Air Force. While in Delaware, she got her pilots license and flew in the region to sight see. She loved running her ranch in Crawford and had names for all of her two-eyed cows. Tessie cherished her family and friends and kept many close friendships over long years and distances. She was fun loving with a great sense of humor and always cheered and encouraged people.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and brother, Charlie Startz, Jr.
Tessie is survived by daughters, Teresa Tillery and husband, James, of Crawford and Nancy Wyatt, of Waco; son, Mikey Carroll and wife, Mary Jo, of Havre de Grace, Md.; grandchildren, Michael Carroll, Bart Wyatt, Judy Harvey, Nathan Waddell, Tammy Waddell, Evan Waddell and Victoria Tillery; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Cozett Tyler, of San Saba.
