Elijah Chaffee, b. Nov. 5, 1799, (prob) Clarendon, Vermont. d. April 16, 1869, South Stukely, Quebec. He was the son of Comfort Chaffee and Lucy Stow. He married March 24, 1822 at Fletcher, Vermont, 1) Electa L. Rood, b. Sept. 24, 1800, Fletcher, Vermont. d. Sep 25, 1824, Berkshire, Franklin, Vermont. She was the daughter of Briggs Rood, a Revolutionary War soldier. He married Dec. 23, 1824, Berkshire, Vt. 2) Julia Robigne Comings, she was born Nov. 17, 1803, Berkshire, Franklin, Vermont. d. Sept. 16, 1884, South Stukely, Quebec. She was the daughter of Samuel Comings and Lydia Marsh.

Elijah bought land from his father in deeds dated June 11, 1822 and August 26, 1826. "Elijah Chaffee later removed to West Berkshire village, and for many years conducted the grist mill on the falls there. He resided in Berkshire the larger part of his life, but his last years were passed with his daughter, Mrs. Jenne, at South Stukely, Quebec."
