H. E. Chaffee was taken sick with pneumonia Friday and has since been very low, with little hopes of recovery.

H. E. Chafee, another of Elroy’s ____ ____ passed to the Great Beyond last Friday evening, Nov. 8th at the Roger’s boarding house of pneumonia after a siege of one weeks duration.

…………….after which the remains were conveyed to our _____ _____ on the hill where they now rest in place.

Deceased was born in the town of Berkshire, Franklin county, Vermont March 3rd, 1832 making him 75 years, 8 months and 5 days of aged at the time of his death. He came to Wisconsin in 1858 and to Elroy in 1859 and has been a resident of this vicinity ever since. He was at one time a prosperous farmer living south west of the city but of late years has followed the carpenters trade. He leaves a son Emitt Chaffee, of Minnesota, a grandson Albert Chaffee and two sisters.

His nephew W. H. Thompson of Lake Park, Iowa who has been with him a good deal during the past summer and fall was with him at the end.

The subject of this ……………………….. ways been an active and energetic man, both mentally and physically. He served our city for several years as Justice of the Peace and was elected city Assesser on the Democratic ticket for one term. In these offices he always served the city to the best of his knowledge. ‘Dad’ Chaffee, as he was often called and known, to the most of us do, made many friends who will also remember the good ____ in his life.
