John Lester Warner Sr., 83, son of Glen B. and Lucy Benson Warner,was born Jan. 1, 1923, at Bartlesville,Okla. He died Dec. 10, 2006,at his home at Bucyrus.
He was the oldest of five children growing up during the Depression. He had a twin sister, who died at birth.
The Warner family lived on a ranch in Oklahoma, where the children attended school with Cherokee and Choctaw Indians.
Because of the Depression, the family moved to the Boiling Springs area, where Mrs. Warner's family lived.
The boys and Mr. Warner worked in the timber, providing railroad ties and eventually operating a saw mill. The family grew vegetables and canned them, had laying hens,
three milk cows and a fat hog; and listened to the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday nights.
He married Eileen Manion June 3,1946, at Salem, Ark. They had five children.
Mr. Warner worked for several years as a bus driver, in maintenance and mechanic work for the Success School.
He was a 50-year member of Texas Lodge #177 and Eastern Star.
His passion was his family and farm. He loved having big family dinners with desserts and all his grandchildren,
who learned to check his front shirt pickets for hidden treasures.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister; wife; two brothers,Harold and Ray; one son, Roy; one daughter, Joyce Shrout; and a great-granddaughter.
Surviving are two sons, John Warner Jr. and Randy Warner of Bucyrus; one daughter, Jan Postlewait of Bucyrus; two brothers, Forrest "Corky" Warner of Polo and Bill Warner of Excelsior Springs; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grand- children and one great-great-grandchild.
Services are 2 o'clock today (Thursday) at the Success Baptist Church with the Rev. Wesley Wallace and the Rev. Ted Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Cavaness Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston.
