STATESVILLE, NC On a cold morning, Wednesday, March 6, 2019, Margaret Elizabeth Davis Souther heard the call from her Savior and Lord Jesus to come to her eternal home across the River Jordan where she was greeted by her Lord; her husband, Ulysses Grant Souther, who had preceded her in death in 1997, and a host of family and friends.

Margaret and Ulysses Grant Souther were married Dec. 24, 1947, at the home of her parents in Wilkes County. They were happily married for 49 years and three months prior to celebrating their 50th anniversary when Ulysses "Dood" passed away September 23rd of 1997.

Margaret was born in Wilkes County Jan 30, 1927, to the late Schuyler Colfax and Della Mae Souther Davis. She was one of nine siblings born to Schuyler and Della Mae Davis and seven of them have gone on to meet the Lord : Isaac, William "Bill", Lucille, Rex, Ray, Schuyler "S.C." and Baby Davis. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michelle Renae Martin and Benjamin "Ben" Grant Martin, as well as one great-grandchild, Laura Martin.

Margaret was also preceded in death by four half-brothers and two half-sisters.

Margaret was a good sister, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She retired after 22 years of employment with J.C. Penney Distribution Center.

She is survived by her three children, Jean Souther Martin (David T.) of Statesville, Joel "Grant" Souther (Karen) Millers Creek, and Denise Souther Martin (Larry) of Hiddenite; five grandchildren, Christina Martin Thomas, Carisa Souther Meade (Bradley), Samuel Davis Martin (Deree), Luke Steven Martin (Jessica), and Todd Mathis (Lisa); ten great-grandchildren, Alexandra Thomas, Colin Parsons, Catherine Martin, Audrey Martin, Nathan Cole Martin, Slater, Meade, Alarie Meade, Abigail Martin, Lucian Martin, and Amber Mathis.

Also, one special brother survives, Gurney N. Davis of North Wilkesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews are left to cherish many memories of Aunt Margaret and her delicious apple pies and pumpkin rolls, which she made for her family.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Nicholson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Sunday March 10, at 4 p.m., at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery , 11635 Statesville Road , North Wilkesboro with the Rev. Allen Lunsford officiating. Active pall bearers will be Margaret's grandsons and nephews.

She is survived by 3 children who were born into this union - Shirley Jean S. Martin and husband David Thomas Martin Statesville, NC, Joel Grant Souther and wife Karen Cheek Souther, Millers Creek, NC, and Denise Elizabeth S. Martin and husband Larry Samuel Martin, Hiddenite, NC.

Margaret was a lifelong member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She was a good sister, home maker, mother, grandmother, as well as an employee who worked outside the home at J.C. Penney Warehouse for 22 years when she retired.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Christina (Christi) M. Thomas, Carisa S. Meade and husband Bradley, Samuel (Sammy) Davis Martin and wife Deree, Luke Stephen Martin and wife Jessica, and Todd Mathis and wife Lisa. Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren –Alex, Colin, Catherine, Audrey, Nathan, Slater, Alarie, Abigail, Lucian, and Amber. She is further survived by a special brother, Gurney Davis of North Wilkesboro, NC. Numerous nieces and nephews are left to cherish many memories of Aunt Margaret and her delicious apple pies which she made for her family, many birthday celebrations, and family reunions.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 6 pm until 8 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. A graveside celebration of her home going will be held Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 4 pm at the cemetery of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Hwy 115 North, Wilkes County, North Wilkesboro, NC. The Rev. Allen Lunsford is the officiating minister. Active pall bearers will be grandsons and nephews of Margaret Davis Souther.
