The son of Anastasia nee Murray and Denis Casey of County Tipperary, Ireland. Patrick emigrated to the Colony in 1857. He arrived in Port Jackson, Sydney on 1 April 1857. aboard the ship "Fitzjames". He accompanied his cousin Mary Casey, daughter of Michael and Catherine Casey.

Patrick married Mary Ann nee Kennedy on 26 Jun 1858 in the Catholic Church, Little Plain near Cooma, NSW. They had 11 (eleven) children.

He married Mary Elizabeth nee Farrell (Glennan, Butler) on 22 Jul 1896 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, in Cooma, NSW.
