Ray was born May 19, 1931 in Washington, D.C. to the late William Russell and Mola Kincaid Rusmisel.
He was a retired Tax Accountant from Norfolk-Southern Railroad and was a member of Braddock Baptist Church.
Ray was a Scout Master for many years and enjoyed coaching Soccer, was an avid bowler, golfer and was a fan of West Virginia University and Virginia Tech.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother William "Moe" Olen Rusmisel and a sister, Mary Gertrude Drury.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Shirley Fahnestock Rusmisel, son; David Wayne Rusmisel and wife Christie, son; Patrick Andrew Rusmisel, and wife, Patsy, daughter; Nancy Lynn Hogate and husband, Daniel, son, Charles Eugene Rusmisel and wife, Debbie, daughter; Rhonada Katherine Weaver and husband, David.
Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren; John and wife Haylee, Michael and wife Bethany, Benjamin, Ashlie, Kendall, Nick, Ben, Zach, Rachel, Joshua, Nate, Sam, and two sisters; Audrey Stanton and husband, Wes, and Anna Buechling.
The family will receive friends and family for a Celebration of Ray's Life, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 beginning at 3 p.m. at 2610 Chestnut Heights Road, Winston-Salem, NC.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice/Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
