Bill Allen, 82, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, February 20, 2001, following a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Allen graduated from Moler Barber College in Cincinnati and operated a barber shop in Baileysville for 30 years. He retired from National Mines and attended the Church of God in Brenton. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. After training at Fort Sill, OK, Fort Bragg, NC, and maneuvers in LA, he was assigned to Gen. George Patton's Third Army, 193rd Field Artillery Group, XX Corps, also known as the "Ghost Corps." During his service, he attained the rank of sergeant. Sgt. Allen participated in the Battle of Chartres, Battle of Verdun, Battle of Metz, Battle Along the Moselle, Battle on Saarlautern and Battle of Bastogne (Battle of the Bulge). He was awarded the following medals and commendations: Good Conduct Medal, Marksmanship Medal, Victory Medal, European Theatre Medal, Bronze Star and a special commendation, "The Medaille de Verdan," by the government of France.

Born July 2, 1918, in Baileysville, he was the son of the late Andrew "Lee" Allen (1886-1959) and Emma Morgan-Allen (1891-1975). He was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Allen (Died in Infancy), Carolyn Allen-Kennedy (Deceased), Julia Allen-Mabe (1921-1975), and Martha Allen (1926-1998).

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Goldia Atwell-Allen; a son, William Michael Allen; a daughter, Rhonda Allen-Toler & husband Donald Toler; two granddaughters, Andrea Toler and Allison Toler, all of Baileysville; six sisters, Bessie Allen-Omer of Spokane, WA, Mary Allen-Short (1920-Deceased) of Clearfork, Mildred Allen-Prater (1924-2010) of Ashland, KY, and Georgia Allen-Mitchell (1930-2014), Garnette Lee Allen-Hatfield (1930-2006), and Joyce Ann Allen-Vance (B. 1937), all of Baileysville; and a brother, Arnold Ralph Allen (1915-2013) of Clearwater, FL.

There will be a private family memorial service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville.
