Brian Krog, age 69, of Lake Benton, MN passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 in the result of a farm accident. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church, Wilno, MN. Burial will be at a later date at the Diamond Lake Cemetery, Lake Benton, MN. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service on Friday, March 1, 2019 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church, Wilno, MN. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. The Houseman Funeral Home in Canby is entrusted with the arrangements.
Brian John Krog was born to Arnold and Aletta (Gacke) Krog on April 13, 1949 in Tyler, MN. He graduated from Lake Benton High School in 1967 and continued his education at Canby Technical College to become a Diesel Technician.
On June 6, 1970, Brian was united in marriage to Patricia Kay Ochocki at Ss. Peter and Paul, Ivanhoe, MN. Shortly thereafter he began farming near Lake Benton, MN. He took great pride in raising four boys and growing crops and livestock on the farm.
Brian served on the Southwest Minnesota Dairy Board, church council at St. John Cantius and the Rosary Society. He was a member of the Red Power chapter and the Two-Cylinder Club. He enjoyed participating in the tractor caravan and one year he custom built a buddy-seat for his wife to ride along on the Super M-TA Diesel.
Brian held many jobs over the years, developing his skills and friendships. He drove school bus and drove truck for various construction companies. In the 1980s he obtained his boilers license, which allowed him to run steam engines and be an avid volunteer for the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag, MN. Some of his favorite things to do in Rollag were to drive the people wagon, showing spectators how history has evolved, and playing in the big sandbox with his dozer.
He recently spent time helping his good friends with the construction of the “150 Case” steam engine that was featured at Andover, SD, this September. Brian loved to work for a good cause to preserve history in agriculture. He marveled at how old timers worked and used their resources. He often jokingly stated he was born 50 years too late.
Brian loved preserving history in the mechanical sense and was a walking historian. Brian had a soft spot for fixing farm machinery that was abandoned or neglected. He hosted many “straw days” and “plow days” on the Krog farm. He was happy when he could hook up his Farmall M to the thresher and have his boys, grandchildren, neighbors and friends be actively involved on his farm.
Brian enjoyed coming home to his loving wife who always had supper on the table, and she enjoyed baking some of Brian’s favorite foods such as; pie, Ponczki and Kringler.
To Brian, there was nothing better than raising kids on a farm and having a Farmall M to put to work each day.
