Aletta Mae Helena Krog, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Sunday, November 3rd at the Hendricks Nursing Home. She was 91.

Aletta was born on June 6, 1922. She was the second child born to Carl and Helena (Jackley) Gacke, who then farmed near Sibley, Iowa. After graduating from high school in 1940, Aletta and her family moved to a farm seven miles north of Lake Benton in Lincoln County. There she met Arnold Krog, whose parents, Hanne and Johan Krog, lived across the section. Arnold and Aletta were married on October 1, 1941, and moved to St. Paul, where their first child, Marcia, was born. When Arnold was drafted to serve in World War II, Aletta returned to Lincoln County, but during the war she was able to spend time with Arnold at various Army Air Corps bases where he was stationed. Their second child, Kathleen, was born in 1945. After the war, Arnold and Aletta purchased a farm in 1947 in Lincoln County. Their son, Brian, was born in 1949, and second son, Colin, was born in 1953. Aletta shared the farm chores with Arnold after he contracted polio in 1952.

She was an avid gardener, antique souvenir glass collector, seamstress and quilter. In all, she made more than 50 quilts, including one for each of her seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom survive her. She attended St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lake Benton for many years before joining Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe.

Aletta is survived by her children: Marcia (John) Copeland of Plymouth, MN, Kathleen Krog of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Brian (Pat) Krog of Lake Benton, MN; seven grandsons: David (Carol) Copeland of Minnetonka, MN, Bradley Kovach of Bozeman, MT, Stephen (Natalie) Kovach of San Antonio, TX, Ken (Laura) Krog of Lake Benton, Kelly (Nancy) Krog of Arco, Matt (Jeanene) Krog of Lake Benton, Scott and Kyndall Krog of Lake Benton; one sister, Rita Bartos of Brooklyn Center, MN.

Her son, Colin, died in 1984. Beloved husband Arnold died in 2000. Four brothers have also preceded her in death: Walter, Don, Harold and Ralph Gacke.
