Hannah Barneycastle Lick was born in Rowan County near Clemmons, in what is now Forsyth County, North Carolina. She chose the Moravian religion, her mother was Moravian and father Methodist/Episcopal. Hannah was received into the Salem congregation on Dec. 26, 1817, and participated in her first communion on March 30, 1820. The Moravian archives have one record saying she was born in Maryland, but all others say North Carolina. Her parents came from Maryland to North Carolina around 1790. Hannah married Solomon Lick March 28, 1814,in the Moravian Church in what is now Old Salem. They lived on Salt Street, and their house is still standing and a private residence. He worked 1st as a hat maker, then at the oil mill until 1835 when they moved to Bartholomew, IN with his brother John Lick. In 1844 they moved to Richland, IL. Hannah died after 1850 census, and before Solomon's death, and she was buried here. Children: Anna Maria Minerva Lick, married Ephriam Brook Owens, she died probably in childbirth; Edwin Malaleal Lick married Hannah Osburn, 7 children; Irene Laeticia Lick married Phillip Reed, might have died young; Menan Traugout Lick married Rebecca Brown, 2 children; Eastman F Lick, no information.
