Master Sergeant Richard L. Heffner, Sr., U.S.A.F Retired, 91, of Dillsburg, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the Hospice of Central Pennsylvania Carolyn’s House, Harrisburg.

He was born June 24, 1927, in Dillsburg the son of the late Harry E. and Luella M. (Auchey) Heffner.

Richard was a retired Commissary Officer for the Army Depot in New Cumberland. He also was a former employee of the West Shore Taxi Co. and the Harrisburg Auto Auction. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force,a W.W II veteran and finally retired after 43 years of service from the 211th Engineering Installation Squadron.

He was a member of the Harmony Church, Dillsburg and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Richard enjoyed traveling, flying, flowers,(he helped put flowers on Rose parade floats for almost 10 years),sports (WE ARE...Penn State!) and he had a generous and giving spirit, loved helping strangers and family and of course his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Sillers) Heffner; four sons, Richard Heffner, Jr. of Gibsonton, Fl, Robert A. Heffner of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Jeffrey G. Heffner of Sarasota, FL, David E. Heffner of Harrisburg; one daughter, LuAnn E. Blazer of Dillsburg; three step-children, Barbara Jo Punda of Camp Hill, John E. Minich of Mechanicsburg, Tobyann E. Curry of Dillsburg; eight grandchildren, Angie, Emily, Michael, Laura, Heather, Alex, Austin, Micaela; four great-grandchildren, Jaden, Dominic, Lyla,and Owen; and one brother, Kenneth Heffner of Arcadia, OH. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Michael A. Minich and a grandson, Brady Minich and 3 brothers Donald, Elmer and Lawrence and 1 sister Neva Williams.

Services will be held Wednesday February 27th, at 11:30 at Harmony Church, 1 Clear Spring Rd., Dillsburg. Burial will follow in the Dillsburg Cemetery-Mountain Road. A viewing will be held preceding the service from 9:30 to 11:30.
