Orangeburg - Gary Evans Brooker, Jr., 40, of the Ninety-Six Road, died Friday at the Orangeburg Regional Hospital. Funeral services will take place at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the St. George Baptist Church near Bolentown with the Rev. Ernest Williams and the Rev. W. W. Lancaster officiating. Burial, directed by Thompson Funeral Home, will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Francis Scott, Charles G. Sheck, John Felkel, Billy Salley, Watson Griffith, Harry Shroat, Jr., Ralph Bonette, and Woodrow Gray. Honorary pallbearers will be Orangeburg Postal Employees, active and retired; all adult men's Bible classes at St. George Baptist Church; deacons of St. George Baptist Church; Pine Hill Lions Club; Ridge Deer Hunting Club; Dr. Ira B. Horton, J. C. Cauthern, Aon Wertz, C. C. Berry, Lloyd Jameson, W. C. Bochette, Pat Jennings, Julian Wolfe, Hall Yarborough, John W. Jackson, Julian Kuhne, W. T. Austelle Jr., W. T. Austelle, John W. Flinton, E. E. Brickle, Al Fischer, Ruben Brunson, Russell Brunson, Lawton Hunter, Jack Nolen, F. Pat Shuler, and Basil Kennerly. Mr. Brooker was born Dec. 11, 1922, a son of Mrs. Lilly Belle Smoak Brooker and the late Gary Evans Brooker of Orangeburg. He was a postal clerk in the Amelia St. Branch Post Office, and had worked in the postal department for the past 16 years. He was a a veteran of the Navy in WWII. He was also a member of the St. George Baptist Church, and served as Sunday School teacher and was a deacon. He was secretary of the Pine Hill Lions Club and a charter member, and was also a member of the Ridge Hunting Club. Surviving are: his widow, Mr. Gary Brooker of Orangeburg; a daughter, Miss Joan Walton Brooker of Columbia; a son, David Wayne Brooker of Orangeburg; his mother, Mrs. Gary E.
