Uncle Buck's obituary was shared by the funeral home, but I want to add a couple of comments. He was an avid golfer and, according to my Dad, really good at the game. Reared on a farm where growing food & hunting was imperative, according to my Dad, Uncle Buck was the best shot of the brothers. He loved blue grass music & he and my Dad would listen together, often on the phone while doing so if Uncle Buck's radio couldn't be tuned just right. He was a gentle, humble soul. He took care of, his wife, our Aunt Linnie while she was sick, his son John and younger brother, Uncle Rob. He and Uncle Rob would visit me at work quite often. His world changed when he lost his son John and Uncle Rob, but he still came to visit me at work when he was able to drive. He worked at that grocery store, he cut grass, he worked well beyond the age most people would give up & sit in a recliner. My Uncle Buck was a remarkable fellow. We miss him terribly.

"James Allen "Uncle Buck" Parker, age 98, died peacefully Monday, February 18, 2019 at Peak Resources of Shelby. Born in Cleveland County on November 30, 1920, he was the son of the late Perry Greene Parker and Ethel Morrison Parker. He was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church. Uncle Buck will be remembered for his strong work ethic, having worked at Cleveland Cloth Mill until its closing, later for Stonecutter in Spindale for many years, and for 20 more years at Harris Teeter in Shelby.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lillian Mauney Parker and their son, John Russel Parker as well as three brothers; Jesse "Jack" Parker, Robert Lee Parker, and P.G. "Speed" Parker.

James is survived by his three brothers; A.C. "Tom" Parker, Billy Dean "Jake" Parker, Glenn Odell "Vop" Parker as well as five sisters; Mary Ellen "Beck" Denton and Jewel "Susie" Clark, Joanne Nanney, Margaret "Sis" Williams and Betty Greene, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews including special niece and caretaker, Elizabeth Annette "Annie" Parker and beloved feline Midnight and company.

Memorials may be made to: AWA, PO Box 564 Shelby, NC 28151."
