Josie Kappelman was born Oct. 4, 1885 to Rinaldo and Elizabeth Kuntz Hysell at Gage County near Beatrice, Nebr. When she was 8 yrs old, she came with her family to Gregory County and lived in the Bonesteel area. She married August Kappelman on Dec. 15, 1904. To this union 5 children were born. They farmed in that area for a number of years. Her husband worked for the railroad several years. She was the first woman to ride on the train going to Dallas, S. Dak. from the west after tracks had been laid. In 1928 they moved to Winner. After her husband died in 1949, she roomed and boarded high school students and did babysitting. In 1962, she moved in with her daughter, Twyla Anthony, where she lived since then.
Survivors include 2 daughters; Ila Rehak and Twyla Anthony, both of Winner; 2 brothers, Jess Hysell, Inglewood, Calif. and Jerry Hysell, Sunnyside, Washington; 15 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 12 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

Mrs. Kappelman has 95th Birthday Party
Mrs. Josie Kappelman was honored on her 95th birthday with a potluck supper on Oct 4, 1980, in the fellowship room of the Christian Chirch.
Out of town guests included; Mrs. Inez Kappelman of Ogden, Utah; Mr. and Mrs. Duane Kappelman and granddaughters, Sarah Crane and Jennifer Hansen, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; Mrs. Sharon Hill and her sons, Christen and Dusty, of Ogden, Utah; Mrs. Barbara Brown and her son, Paul Kappelman of Liberty, Utah; Mrs. Connie McKean, and her daughter, Kristal and son, Corey, of Ogden, Utah.
