Sep. 26, 1919 issue of Petersburg Observer: Mrs. Amanda Lane died at the home of her son in Petersburg, Sunday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m., aged 64 years and 20 days. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., Elder Wm. Groves officiating. Burial was made in Hornback cemetery. Amanda Deck was born in the state of Missouri, September 1, 1855, where she grew to maturity and was united in marriage with William Lane when about 20 years of age, and to this union were born eight children, five of whom are living. She confessed faith with her savior and united with the Christian church when quite young. She had been a resident of this community for a number of years, and was loved and respected by a number of neighbors and friends for her gentleness and kindness of heart in times of sickness and affliction. Not only did she rear her own family, but after the death of a daughter-in-law, she took charge of the children of her son, and has endeared herself to them as mother. She leaves to mourn her death, four sons, George, Harvey and Alfred of Petersburg and Mert of Athens, one daughter, Mrs. Eva Palmer of Oklahoma, twelve great-grandchildren, two sister and three brothers, with many friends and loved ones.
