Garris F. Futch, was born at the family farm house in Groveland, Georgia--just out side of Nevils in Bulloch County. His parents were Golden Futch and Mary-Julia Rogers Futch. Garris had 2 siblings, a sister, LouNell Futch Sikes and a brother, William Futch. At age 19, Garris left the farm and moved to Savannah, Georgia. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army. During World War II, he served his country as a Communication Specialist seeing combat in France, Germany and several other countries in Europe. After the war, he returned to Savannah and in 1952 married Rosemeta Laffitte. He lived in Savannah until he retired from Derst Baking Company in 1986 and returned to the Nevils area. Garris is survived by 2 daughters, Susan F. Moody and Juleta F. Brannan; 2 grandsons, Gray W. Moody, Sr. and Herman T. Moody and 4 great-grandchildren. He is greatly missed by his friends and family.
