AHNERT, Norma C.

Norma C. Ahnert of Old Lyme, died on Friday, (October 17, 2003) at the Gladeview Health Care Center in Old Saybrook. She was born to Albert C. and Edna LaBorde Carbo on February 18, 1920 in Alexandria, LA. She attended elementary, high school and business schools in Alexandria, and was employed by the US Army during World War II in the Post Exchange Offices at Camp Livingston, LA. She met and eventually married H. Bruno Ahnert in November 1945. She bore two children, Linda Margaret and Glenn Eric, both born in Alexandria. Glenn's marriage to Susan Chiaramonte in 1971 produced two grandchildren, daughters Jacquline and Kristin. Norma was a devoted mother and housewife and raised her offspring single handedly, her husband working many long and late hours. She made sure that her children attended and graduated college. In 1963, she joined with her husband to build Coastal Steel Corporation in Salem, CT, and served as office manager for the firm for 20 years. Needlework of any sort was her pet thing to do and she kept the best manicured lot in the Town of Salem. She was a quiet wonderful person who served her family well with love and faithfulness. She will be loved and missed to the end of eternity. We thank her for touching our lives in such a profound, quiet, gentle manner. Rest in Peace Dear Wife and Mother. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at 1 p.m. in Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme. Following the service, the family will receive friends at their residence at 11 Sill La., Old Lyme. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. The Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Old Lyme is handling arrangements.
