Severino was born to parents Sante Carnera and Giovanna Mazziol. He was the brother of world champion heavy weight boxer(c1933) Primo Carnera(born 1906) and Secondo(born 1908). Three siblings died in infancy to include presumably his twin Umberto, born in Germany, who died a few days afterwards.
