Maurice "Mort" Edgington lost his battle with cancer on November 11, 2013, at the age of 88. Mort attended Buckeye Boys' State in 1942, as a

junior from DeVilbiss High School and had attended as an alumna for many years. Finding the experience

immensely valuable, Mort annually sponsored a high school boy to Buckeye Boys' State.

He joined the Navy in 1943 and served on the USS President Hayes during World War II. As a Machinist Mate, 1st Class, he operated the steam engines on the ship and drove an APA20 Landing Craft during invasions on Guada Canal, Tawara, the Carolines, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Nagoya and Japan. Mort also served as President of the USS President Hayes and Unholy Four Reunion Committee for many years.

After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1950 with a degree in Business Administration and a charter member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, he became the owner of the CK Merrill Jewelry in Toledo. Owning the business for approximately fifteen years, he gained valuable business experience which led to a teaching opportunity at the University of Toledo, Scott Park Campus. Mort later earned his Master's Degree in Psychology from Eastern Michigan University.

Mort was a 65 year member of Damascus - Collingwood Masonic Lodge No. 643 where he served as Master and District Deputy Grand Master. He was a member of the York Rite and an honorary 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, 50 plus year member of

Zenobia Shriners, Past

Commander of Zenobia Legion Of Honor, and member of the Conn Weisenburger Post American Legion. As a WWII veteran, he took the Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2011.

Mort also enjoyed recreational activities with his wife and daughters. The family took month long camping

vacations every summer, and throughout the years camped in every state in the United States and every province in Canada. Later in life Mort and Liz delighted in skiing in Switzerland, Italy, New Zealand, Canada and extensively throughout the western and eastern United States.

Mort is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (nee Roulet); his daughters, Jo Lynn (Elliot) Saunders and Dr. Susan (Craig) Johnson; grandchildren, Andrea Landers, Jennifer Smith, Laura Cloud, Jodi McMaster, Katie Johnson, Jason Saunders, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mort will long be remembered by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a kind and loving man who gave of himself to better the lives of others.

The family would like to thank the following professionals for their caring compassion: Dr. Richard Phinney, dad's special nurse Angel, Dr. Ariss, Dr. Gallagher, Flower Hospital 6th floor staff and the staff at the Ebeid Hospice Residence.

Services will be performed by the Masonic Order, Legion of Honor, American Legion and Scottish Rite, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Lambertville United Methodist Church, 8165 Douglas Road, Lambertville, Michigan on Friday, November 15, 2013. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow after the memorial service.
