Nona Marie Sparks was born in Fort Worth on Aug. 23, 1929 to John Henry Sparks Jr. and Ola Modena Pugh. Nona graduated from Diamond Hill High School and attended Texas Wesleyan College as a voice major. She married Dean Peterson on July 10, 1948 in Weatherford, and they celebrated 61 years together prior to his death in 2009. Nona was a choir director and soloist for Calvary Methodist Church and later attended Boulevard Methodist Church and Diamond Hill Baptist Church. She worked for World Book Encyclopedia, Monnig's and JC Penney, and was often one of their top sales people. She was a family storyteller, collector of antiques, avid gardener, and wonderful cook, but was above all a devoted wife and mother. Her children always came first, and her passing leaves an unfillable void in her family circle.
Nona was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Peterson; and daughter, Rebecca; six brothers; and two sisters.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Dean Peterson Jr. and wife, Sheila, Jeffrey Peterson and wife, LouAnn, Andrew Peterson and wife, Dana; daughters, Nancy Pardo and husband, Joe, Katie Stellar and husband, Mark; sister-in-law, Ruby Sparks; brothers-in-law, Rev. Jimmie Spann and Bill Marcum; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
