He enjoyed overhauling cars, and taking things apart to fix them. Don had a love for cats, and enjoyed the company from his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his two children; Lori (Gary) Korthals of George, IA, Dean (Cindy) Carlson of Oelwein, IA; six grandchildren Codie (Molly) Korthals, Darcie (Justin) Tiedemann, Nathaniel Carlson, Ashleigh Carlson, Kailee Carlson, and Paige Kruger; one great grandchild, William Korthals; sisters, brothers, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Marilyn; son Donald Lee; grandchildren Lance and Lonnie Korthals; brothers Clarence, Truman, Delmont, Duane, Raymond, George Carlson; an infant brother; sisters Edna Barron, Elizabeth Anderson, and Gladys Sears.
