Nov. 26, 1926 issue of Athens Free Press: Samuel M. Hibbs was born in Mason County, Illinois, October 14, 1851 and died November 19, 1926, at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 5 days. He was united in marriage to Eliza Alice Gard, December 28, 1871, who passed away May 13, 1883. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Sarah M. Hoheimer of Pekin, Cal Hibbs of this city and Marion of Springfield; also Mrs. LaVerne Kalb of Athens, who preceded him in death, October 19, 1922. He is also survived by one brother John of Alton; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was later married to Miss C. A. Miller, who preceded him in death in 1920. Funeral services were held from the residence of Cal Hibbs, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. J. C. Ewing, pastor of the M. E. Church, officiating. Interment was made in West Cemetery.
