Samuel H. was born on October 14, 1851. He married Eliza A. Gard and they had four children: Sarah Melinda, Mary LaVern, Lorenzo Cornelius "Calvin" and Francis Marion. Eliza died May 13, 1883 and Sam married Cynthia Miller. Sam died November 19, 1926 at Bartonville, Illinois. All are buried at the West Cemetery.
John E. married Harriet "Hattie" D. Goodman, the daughter of Martin and N.E. Baker Goodman, on January 19, 1893. They had six children: Adam, Lora May, John Dewey, Herman, Rosco A., and Flossie Ellen. Hattie died April 5, 1908 and is buried in the Hall Cemetery.
James married Sarah Gard, they had nine children: Maria, Mary, Myrtle, Wilbur, Frank, Vernan, Edward (These seven were all that were listed).
Maria died in 1894 and late in his life, John married Nancy Goodman Nash, widow of Granville Nash. A farmer throughout most of his life, John died in 1911 and his second wife, Nancy, died in 1904. Both are buried in the West Cemetery.

The death of Mrs. Sarah Hibbs, one of the old time residents of this city, died at her home in Athens, Tuesday evening, Sept. 3, 1935 at 10:40 o'clock after a short illness at the age of 78 years.
Deceased was born near Elkhart, IL, but has been a resident of Athens for over 60 years. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Garm (Gard)
Surviving are one son, Wilbur Hibbs of Athens; three daughters, Mrs. Maria Shelton, Athens, Mrs. George Hagel and Mrs. Myrle Knox, both of Springfield; two half brothers, Luther Sowers of Springfield, and Charles Sowers of Wisconsin, and a number of other relatives and warm friends.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Mission this Thursday afternoon, Sept. 5, at 2 o'clock, Rev. E.L. Banta officiating, Interment West Cemetery.
