Mary Ann Patton Rogers was the daughter of Dornton Patton and Sarah Ann Spaulding Ryan. She married Hugh Riah Rogers (1809 - 1882) in Itawamba County Mississippi, and they homesteaded on Rock Creek, which was incorporated into Tishomingo County 1870, on the Natchez Trace. Her father and husband were both large land holders.
After the death of her husband, her son Dorn Rogers, a blacksmith, left Mississippi for Texas and opened The Lone Star Blacksmith Shop in Hill County; shortly later the rest of the family sold their holdings and Mary Ann Rogers left to Hill County, Texas with her son Hugh Riah Rogers Jr. and daughters Maggie Rogers Beachum (whose husband James Rogers Beachum was a dentist) and Mollie Rogers McCollum (whose husband William Buckner McCollum was a blacksmith). The move created a "big stink" in the family, with daughter Mattie Rogers Tynes remaining in Mississippi and resentful that her mother was taken.
