Jimmye Thomas Boyd peacefully joined his Savior in Heaven on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at James River Rehab and Nursing Center. He was born on May 6, 1929, the youngest of eight children, to Smith and Alma Boyd in his cherished hometown of Water Valley, Kentucky. It was during an old brush arbor meeting at the age of twelve that Jimmye accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Around the same time he discovered he was blessed with a musical gift. As a teenager, one of his first jobs was playing the piano during revival services for The Happy Goodman Family. He met Wilma Lou Stow, while they both were playing for their gospel quartets during a radio competition. After marrying in 1951, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where Jimmye earned degrees from the Baptist Seminary, Texas Wesleyan University and Texas Christian University. He and Wilma were the church musicians for Castelberry Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Jimmye spent the majority of his life in Springfield, MO, where he earned a Master’s degree in Education from Drury and spent many years serving in the English department at Kickapoo High School. In addition to being a church musician, Jimmye taught Sunday school classes while a member at High Street Baptist Church and Seminole Baptist Church. His ministry in music has touched so many over the years and Heaven is blessed today with his gifts and talents.
Jimmye devoted the last 30 years of his life taking care of a wife, after she suffered a massive stroke.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma; sister, Dorothy Haddad (Sammy); three children, Rebekah Harmon (George), Joel Boyd and Beth Jones (Robert) and their families which include seven grandchildren, Scott, Brandon, Ryon, Andrea, Adam, Calvin and Anna and 17 great- grandchildren.
Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
