Lena Mary Rhoads, daughter of D. H. and Rachel Dinsmore, was born near Fremont, January 25, 1874 and passed away March 18 at the age of 79 years.
On May 15,1898 she was united in marriage to Francis A. Rhoads. She had spent her entire life in and around Fremont.
Mr. Rhoads had been in failing health for several years but critically ill only 3 days. Mr. Rhoads died February 13, 1951.
Surviving are her 10 children: 6 daughters, Mrs. Hazel Aldridge, Mrs. Roy McBeth and Mrs. Ed Swanson of Hedrick; Mrs. Dale Roquet of Fremont, Miss Edna Rhoads of Phoenix, AZ and Mrs. Lucille Davis of Denver, CO; 4 sons, Floyd and Ward Rhoads of Fremont; Lowell Rhoads of Ottumwa; and Raymond Rhoads of Oskaloosa. Also 2 sisters, Mrs. Nellie Aldridge of Talent, OR and Mrs. Pearl White of Lexington, KY; 3 brothers, Harry Dinsmore of Flint, MI; C. C. Dinsmore of Ottumwa and Frank Dinsmore of Fremont. She had 4 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Rhoads became a member of the Methodist Church of Fremont during her early life and enjoyed attending services and social activities of the church.
Funeral services were held Friday March 20 at the Fremont Methodist Church with Rev. Martin Greer and Dr Ernest Mathews in charge. Mrs. Mac Lee and Erwen Ehrenhard sang, accompanied by Mrs. William Hols. Burial was in Cedar Township Cemetery. Grandsons were pallbearers.
Those from a distance attending services were Miss Edna Rhoads of Phoenix, AZ, Mrs. Lucille Davis of Denver, CO, Mr. and Mrs. John Rhoads of Oregon, IL, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Clark, Sr. of Burlington, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Moser and Mrs. Billie Mills of Dallas Center, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest McBeth of Wellman, IA, Garnet Dinsmore of Blairstown and many relatives and friends from surrounding communities.
