GASTONIA – Dee Lawson Martin, 90, of Gastonia, NC passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
The funeral service will be 11 AM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Bratton Funeral Home in York, SC; Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM at the funeral home on Monday.
Born in Jackson, TN, Dee was the daughter of the late Shade Washington Lawson and Lydia Bell Worley Lawson. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Clover, SC. She was a secretary at various churches her husband, Arthur Glenn Martin, served as minister. At different times, she worked as secretary/bookkeeper for a doctor, executive secretary to a hospital administrator, secretary for the president of an independent oil chain, and worked for 17 years for Ford Motor Company. While serving as missionaries in Nigeria, West Africa, she taught Ladies’ Classes and treated sick and wounded people who came for help.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Glenn Martin, daughter, Glenda Hood (James) of Belmont, NC, son, Jeff Martin (Becky) of Kentucky, sister, Sarah “Bitsy” Oliver, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by a son, Steven Leo, her brothers, William Dorris Lawson, James Robert Lawson, and sister, Mildred Imogene Lawson Mangrum.
