Anna Pettit married John Baldwin Powell on 31 December 1836 in Christ's Presbyterian Church in South Hempstead, Long Island. She is the daughter of James and Margaret (Sealey) Pettit of South Hempstead. Based on U.S. Census records and cemetery records, they were the parents of four children. Initially all of the member of the extended Powell Family were buried in the Powell Family cemetery on the Powell farm at the corner of Grand Avenue and Babylon Turnpike in Freeport, Long Island. Bodies buried in the Powell Cemetery were moved to the Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale (Hempstead) when the farm land was developed in the late 1800s. The Find A Grave memorials for other family members indicate that the bodies were removed to Greenfield Cemetery in January 1900.

An undated newspaper article was included in the Find-a-Grave memorials for some member of the Powell Family. "To Destroy Powell Plot. Another Family Burying Ground on Long Island to Pass Away--Bodies to be Removed to Greenfield Cemetery. The original Powell Family Cemetery was on the Powell farm on the corner of Grand Avenue and Babylon Turnpike. The cemetery was located about 1,000 feet north of the Powell home. Charles Powell was the original settler there and was buried there in 1842, and his wife Mary was buried there 14 December 1853. Included in the list of family members buried there was John B. Powell, who lived at the homestead with his wife Anna. Anna (Pettit) Powel died 10 January 1875 and was buried in the Powell family plot. Her husband John B. died 6 April 1875. The newspaper article was clipped and included in a Powell family Find a Grave memorial, but the copy does not give the date or name of the newspaper.
