STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Antoinette Abbruscato, 90, a retired seamstress and longtime Oakwood resident whose life revolved around her family, died Sunday in Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills, where she had been a patient for two weeks.

Born Antoinette Russo in Naples, Italy, she met Joseph Abbruscato when he was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. The couple fell in love, and she came to the United States as a war bride in 1946, moving with her husband to Brooklyn and becoming a homemaker. She settled in Oakwood in 1962, and was also a snowbird, wintering in Margate, Fla.

She also worked for many years as a seamstress in Manhattan's garment district.

Mrs. Abbruscato loved to cook, she also enjoyed hosting holiday dinners where she prepared the traditional Italian "Feast of the Seven Fishes" on Christmas Eve. She also enjoyed travel.

Described as a wonderful person by her family, her warmth and loving nature will be deeply missed, they said.

She was a parishioner of St. Charles R.C. Church, Oakwood.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Joseph.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Colonial Funeral Home, New Dorp, with a Mass at 9:15 a.m. in St. Charles Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
