Little is known about the beginning of our maternal grandmother Florence May (Arnold) Jones other than she was born in Bedfordshire, England and have not been able to confirm neither her father as Richard Sayer Arnell and mother as Susan Dawson with any written documentation. There has been much confusion between the surname Arnell and Arnold, primarily occurring from a local accent interpreting Arnell as Arnold. (Some members of the family appear to have used Arnell and some Arnold.)

We do know that Florence originally was married to Willie Frank Williamson who was a United State citizen serving in the Canadian military that she met in England and married him during World War I, on October 10, 1917. Her first son, registered as Leonard Frank Arnold was born in England in May 2016, and we have not been able to determine his father as none is listed on his birth registry . Willie, Florence and Leonard emigrated to Canada on military transport. Siblings followed with sister "Sadie" in 1920 and "Dallas" in 1923.

It was upon their move from Canada to Oregon that her husband Willie died in January 1926, and she had three young children. We have no information on how Florence met James Mancil Jones, but they were married in Vancouver, WA on December 21, 1926 and six months later daughter Nellie May was born in June 1927, and daughter Eva in November of 1928.

Discovering information on our grandmother has been extremely difficult and we have reached out through ancestry to 2nd and 3rd cousins without success. We welcome more information. Thank you.
