SISTER M. MARTINA DIETRICH, O.P.

Died on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at Washington Hospital in Fremont, California. She was 89 years old.

Born on April 18, 1917 in Portland, Oregon, Sister Martina was a Dominican Sister for 72 years. Her teaching ministry brought her to Saint Boniface, Saint James and Saint Anthony Schools, San Francisco; Saint Boniface School, Anaheim; Saint Vincent School for Boys, San Rafael; The Albertinum, Ukiah; Immaculate Heart School, Portland; Serra Center, Fremont and Sacred Heart Elementary School, Los Angeles. Sister Martina also served in internal ministry for her Dominican Sisters and in the apostolate of prayer.

Sister Martina is survived by her sister, Ann Ritchie Brady, several nieces and nephews and other relatives, friends and the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose.

The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 22nd, 5 p.m. at the Dominican Sisters Chapel, 43326 Mission Blvd., Fremont. Burial in the Dominican Sisters Cemetery will follow immediately.

Memorials may be made to the Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund or the Mother Pia Backes Education Fund, 43326 Mission Blvd., Fremont, CA 94539 or the Vision of Hope Fund, 1555 - 34th Ave., Oakland, CA 94601.
